The embarrassment that comes with putting your hand in your hair to itch in public places is underrated. Woohoo! I can relate to that, which is why you should know why your scalp itch and find a solution like I did when I had a share of it a few years back. An itchy scalp can range from slightly uncomfortable to unbearable. Wondering why your scalp is itchy? One of these five reasons might just be the cause. Let’s dive in right away
1. Dandruff
Dandruff is the common cause of itchy scalp. Dandruff causes the skin on the scalp to flake. The scalp is dry, itchy, and flaky. There are several causes of dandruff, some of which include; dry skin, oily scalp, yeast infection, etc. Dandruff can range from mild to severe; they aren’t contagious but can be distressing and inconvenient. Dandruff can be treated by using a medicated or anti-dandruff shampoo to wash your hair regularly, use of essential oils like tea tree oil, neem oil, and coconut oil are also very helpful. Blue Rebbon’s product line has made treating dandruff easy and time-saving for you with our Dandruff/itchy scalp serum. It’s easy to use, effective, and free from chemicals that might cause contact dermatitis.
Product Build-up
It is highly mortifying to hear that some people criticize the use of clarifying shampoo and that it is “Overemphasized.” Another reason your scalp might be itching can be product build-up. Product build-up is the accumulation of different substances on your scalp, use of lots of products over a while, and dirt. It causes dryness, itching, Flakes, greasiness, and inability of hair to absorb or retain moisture. Product build-up can be treated by using a Cleansing and Clarifying Shampoo; also use of tea tree oil is helpful. To avoid product build-up, it is essential to have a regular hair care routine to wash your hair. It is also vital to avoid Clarifying shampoo that is harsh on the scalp as some of them contain harsh chemicals like sulfate. We recommend using the Blue Rebbon Clarifying and cleansing shampoo. It is sulfate and paraben-free.
Lack of Healthy Hair Care Routine.
Another reason your hair might be itching might simply be a lack of care. When you don’t take care of your hair or have poor hair hygiene, your hair might want to protest by itching. A regular hair care routine cannot be overemphasized. We understand that you might be too busy to do that yourself, or the thought of wash day stresses you out if you don’t even know how to go about your wash day or hair care routine. We have provided a Blue Rebbon Spa session, an appointment session where your hair is delicately cared for. To book an appointment, click here
Allergic Reactions
Your scalp might be itching due to an allergic reaction to hair care products or a hair dye. A common allergen is para-phenylenediamine (PPD), which is found in hair dye. Although uncommon, you can also be allergic to natural substances; we have a client whose scalp is allergic to shea butter. Paying attention to what your scalp reacts to is very important. The best way to treat this is to discontinue such product use.
Lice
It is crucial to note Lice infestation is not associated with poor hygiene. Lice is spread by direct transfer of the insect from one person’s hair to another. Lice on your hair can cause an itchy scalp. To get rid of lice at home, get the following: a nit comb, apple cider vinegar, and tea tree oil. Or you can book an appointment or consultation session with Blue Rebbon to get rid of them.
Itchy scalp can be distressing, but it is treatable; while sometimes it can be unavoidable, it is still largely avoidable. Some common ways of treating an itchy scalp are washing the hair with Apple Cider Vinegar and using a scalp oil that contains essential oils like lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, and tea tree oil, which can be very helpful.
