THE SIMPLEST WASH DAY ROUTINE EVERY NATURALS SHOULD KNOW!

Wash days…! Hmm, wash days can be exhausting and just scary. For most naturals, including me, wash days are days you postpone until you can no longer do or when your hair starts itching. So, how can you confront this problem? Well, this is where we help you out. The very first step is to do the mental prep well. Before I go into the very simple wash day routine, every natural should know; however, your wash day routine can be particular to your hair type and porosity. But, this routine is a very simple way day routine every natural should know.

The first rule of wash day that we recommend here at Blue Rebbon is to always work in sections at every step on your wash day. I remember on one of my wash days, I pre-pooed in section, but by the time I finished conditioning my hair, it was a tangled mess. I had lost the sectioning, and I got stuck. As you can guess, it took minutes to get back on track. In order not to waste precious time, remember to always wash in sections. You can use sectioning clips for more effective sectioning.

Pro Tip: if you don’t have a sectioning clip, you can use snag-free hair bands to section your hair. You are welcome!!

STEP ONE: WASHING

As this is a simple wash day routine, we assume you won’t need to pre-poo. In this step, you wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo. We advise using sulfate and paraben-free shampoo. A shampoo that contains sulfate takes out essential natural oils from your hair and scalp.  After washing with shampoo, you condition with a rinse-out conditioner.

STEP TWO: DEEP CONDITIONING

The next step is to deep condition. There are a lot of deep conditioning products out there; make sure you choose the right products for your hair. The best deep conditioner for any hair is the one with good slip. It helps the processing of detangling. Apply the deep conditioner to your hair generously (still in sections) and detangle each section with a wide-toothed comb or detangling brush of your choice. This is the best time to detangle your hair, and the product slip helps the detangling process better with little to no pain. Finally, let it sit in by covering the hair with a processing cap, alternatively nylon and a satin bonnet, or, best option, a hair steaming cap. Wash out the deep conditioner after 30 minutes with water.

Remember that the Rinse out conditioner and the Deep conditioner are to be rinsed out of the hair. Also, you use a rinse-out conditioner before the deep conditioner, never the other way round.

Disclaimer! You don’t shampoo after deep conditioning. Just rinse out with ordinary or preferably cold water to close the hair cuticle.

STEP THREE: MOISTURIZING or LOC/LCO

This is a critical step. You always moisturize your hair. When moisturizing, you can use the LOC/LCO method. The LOC method is just the liquid/oil/cream method. It consists of applying water or a water-based product like a leave-in conditioner, oil to retain the moisture, and cream or sealant like shea butter, hair butter, or grease-like Blue Magic to lock in the moisture. You apply your products in this exact order for the best results. That’s liquid, oil, and cream OR liquid, cream, or oil. This technique is fundamental and helpful.

STEP FOUR: PROTECTIVE STYLE

After washing, deep conditioning, and moisturizing, the final step is to put the hair in a protective style. A protective style is any hairdo that keeps the end of the hair tucked away and reduces manipulation. Protective hairstyles consist of classic or knotless braids, flat twists, kinky, passion, spring twists, wigs, cornrows, etc. A protective style should not be tight!!!.
